Richard Braithwaite (b.1930) seen here in his mineral room, is one of the foremost mineral collectors of the past seventy or so years, known to many in the mineral world, both in academia and the collector community.
In many respects Richard might be viewed as the ideal ambassador for mineral collecting. Experienced in field collecting, widely travelled, technically expert, well-connected within the mineralogical community and with an easy-going personality and a somewhat mischievous streak, he has maintained good links with, and provided assistance to the collector community throughout his long life.
His extensive, worldwide collection, contains many rare species and specimens analysed and described by Richard and his great friends George Ryback (1936–2003) and Tim Greenland (b.1920).
The Russell Society records it grateful thanks to Richard for granting permission for his card index to be scanned, and to Tom Costes for undertaking the monumental task of scanning thousands of index cards.
