The Russell Society takes its name from Sir Arthur Russell (1878-1964), one of the greatest British mineral collectors of the 20th century. He formed what is arguably the most outstanding private collection of British minerals that has ever been made, which is now housed at the Natural History Museum, London.
Roy Starkey has written an appreciation of Russell’s life which includes many links to other resources as well as photographs of some of the mineral specimens collected by Russell. Roy’s comprehensive appreciation can be downloaded as a PDF file here.
